Between Makkah and Madinah
Reflections on the Prophetic Immigration ------ 12/27/2003 ------

No one get fed up with reading the biography of our Prophet (may peace be upon him), in particular when we understand the real meanings and lessons of this great biography. It may be convenient to reflect for moments on the Prophetic immigration from Makkah to Madinah, thus we may grasp the moral lessons of this honorable event many people do not know its meaning properly.

Regardless its dramatic events, the Prophetic immigration deserves by itself a careful consideration. It is not a picnic, nor a tour for seeing sights. Also, we cannot regard it as a travel for getting the earthly pleasures; it is a movement towards saving the new-born ideology, Islam, and a sacrifice with the soul, family, money for the sake of Islam. In a nutshell, this immigration starts from the religion and end with religion.

The Prophetic immigration is not a series of events one can easily relate to others; it is an integrated methodology for whom can make wittily conclusions. This milestone event embodies the methodology applied by Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) supported by God’s helping. One can claim that it is not a normal event; rather, a glorious event noteworthy to be regarded whenever we can. Here, we are going to show some of the examples and moral lessons about this unforgettable event, letting the witty reader to conclude the rest.

A Progressive Preaching and a Great Patience
As we know, Allah’s Messenger called by day and night the atheists for worshiping God for 13 years, facing great oppression and harms from the atheists of Quraysh trying to limit the goodness from spreading. Though all these mistresses, Allah’s Messenger did not fall into despair, especially after he has been followed by a few men and women believing in his call. For spreading Islam in another place, the Prophet headed for Taif, surprisingly responded by the vulgar of Taif in a bitter refusal to his call. Further, they stoned him till his feet bled. Gabriel came down from the heaven, telling him that the Angel of Mountains came down with him (Gabreil). Gabriel told Mohammed that the Angel of the Mountains was ordered by God to collapse all the mountains upon the heads of the Taif people if Mohammed wished so. But Allah’s Messenger replied saying no, asking for them the mercy that they may beget, by Allah’s will, who worship Him. This is the first lesson we should think over; what have we accomplished for the sake of this religion, Islam? How far do we endure the hardships and mischief for spreading Islam? Are we raelly patient like Prophet (may peace be upon him) to do that , or would surrender as soon as we face some hardships and oppression? How followers of Mohammed!

Young men And Responsibility
Given the permission by God to immigrate from Makkah to Madinah, Prophet (may peace be upon him) Ali Ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) to sleep in the same place the Messenger was accustomed to sleep for misleading the atheists. Ali responded to the Messenger, sleeping in the Messenger’s bed till morning. As young he was, Ali managed to face the arms and arrogance of the atheists of Qurayesh. Asked about the whereabouts of Mohammed, Ali bravely faced and misguided them . Now, the question is: do we teach our kids and young men sacrifice as Ali did? Do we guide them to stand to the responsibility? How many can young men walk in life depending on God and feeling self-assurance? Rather, does dependence on others become the norm in our lives ?

The Real Role of Mosque
The Prophet (may peace be upon him) continued his journey till he arrived Madinah. There, he started with building the first mosque in the Islamic history, considering that the mosque was not for praying only; rather, it would play a vital role in setting up the Muslim prospect society. Indeed, the first mosque in the Islamic history was a starting point for spreading Islam around the world as well as the center of the Islamic Empire directed by Allah’s guidance.

How do the Muslim rich people consider this truth? How do the Muslim scholars, officials and scientists regard the important role of the mosques in our societies? Why have the mosques become so neglected? And if we care, we would do for praying only, paying no attention to the highly significant role can be played by a mosque in the Muslims’ lives.

These are some brief reflections which should be considered carefully and applied to our realities for reforming what we can reform in ourselves and our societies.
