 Hajj & Umrah

Man traveling for Hajj & leaving wife behind without a mahram ------ 3/6/2004 ------

Question: Can a married man go for Hajj, leaving his young wife with small children at home, when the woman has no 'mahram' at home to look after her, as long as he has made sufficient financial arrangements to provide for his family?

Response: If a man going for Hajj leaves his family in an environment where he does not fear for their safety, then there is no problem in doing so.

If, however, he fears that harm might come to them, whether that harm might be physical or psychological, then it would be better for him not to go to Hajj at this time and alleviate their fears, since his family has a right over him.

And Allah knows best.
