Though the numerous Fatwas prohibiting the contribution with the Reality TV programs, the strange program for our Muslim societies and the source of the spoiling western traditions, a big volume of the young men and women watching them has not been affected.
The vote carried out by the watching audience online and by the cellular phone was so high during the live broadcasting of the contest during 4 months as a specialized channel offered a comprehensive and live coverage to the activities and exercises of the competitors at the headquarter of the Academy in Lebanon, the Media Officer of Star Academy confirmed.
This program, regardless its name as Star Academy, Al-Hawah Sawa or , finally, The Big Brother, caused a wave of rage and discontent of a great number of the reformists and guides around the Arab and Muslim world.
This was recently expressed by His Excellence Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudaes, the Imam and Preacher of the Holy Mosque in Makkah, who called the directors of the Arab TV satellite channels in the Arab world to stop broadcasting these programs which exclude the virtue and encourage the vice.
We call, by God, the chief officers of these channels to stop these trivial and superficial programs which spread the awful vices among the Muslims, disappointing our societies, and illustrating a betrayal to our current causes, Al-Sudaes added.
He described Star Academy as a lethal mass destruction weapon against all the good values, chastity and virtue. It contributes to shaking the social conservative order and the outstanding moral fabric of the Muslim societies, resulting on the long run in dangerous effects expressed by revolting against the basic traditions and behaviors of the Muslim society.
Al-Sudaes' call came after days of the Fatwa issued by the Authority of the Senior Scholars in Saudi Arabia, demanding prohibiting Star Academy broadcast on TV around the clock as it showed events discarded by the Islamic teachings and the good common sense.
Conversely, we find many refutable excuses claimed by the sponsors of this program as one of them said that these programs embody the equality between man and woman! Others claimed that Reality TV programs reinforce the opportunities of co-existence among the Arab young men and women coming from different social environments and cultures.
Is there no another way for such claimed co-existence except this low program disregarding the social norms and traditions as well as the subtle teaching and rules of Islam? How can we accept, as Muslims, mixing between men and women at one place, even inside bedrooms? How can this matter accepted not only socially, but also religiously?
The culture of Star Academy and the like re-open once again the controversial matter of westernization and the low values that many Arab bodies support among the emerging generations to the extent that some honoring celebrations for the young men and women winning in the singing contests have been held by some Arab universities which once did not honor except the outstanding students.
This futile effort is condensed in a well-informed media message targeting many objectives, like most importantly developing the culture of mixture between men and women, giving the youth the sense that it is OK to form the relationships and friendships with the other gender and, finally, instilling the concept that the separation between men and women is an antique social tradition!
