The need to the self-confidence expresses itself on thinking about a certain behavior. There is a decisive moment that comes before doing or avoiding a behavior. This moment precedes the first step of bringing a behavior into action; it is a moment of the self-confidence one may have or lose. In case of the sufficient self-confidence, a person will go ahead. But in case of lacking such capacity, or if a person hesitates or avoids to do something, the self-confidence turns to a walking stick on which a person depends to do something.
To develop and promote the self-confidence in a child, one should focus on the following matters:
1. Opening the easy ways before your child’s ideas and initiatives.
2. Smile, as a first reaction, on responding to your child’s ideas whatever his/her condition or behavior, and insist on exchanging the smiles on meeting.
3. Giving grants or donations in the unnecessary needs (gifts – devises – school stuff – toys).
4. Responding politely on refusing to your child’s requests. Give reasons for your refusal.
5. Forgiving the mistakes and ignoring the slips. Seize the proper chance to instruct him/her how to avoid such mistakes.
6. Protect your child against the aggression of others. Help him / her when facing such situations. It is important to teach your child be tolerant with other’s mistakes. Remind him / her with the advantage of forgiving others and the patience with the fate, bad or good. Teach your child that every body has a lot of bad situations and a man should be patient with his/her lot.
7. Love your child in word and action. In word, let him / her hear the words of affection. In action, hug, kiss and kid around. In this case, a child will feel beloved, accepted and highly appreciated, not only by you, but also by the elders.
8. Praise your child on doing well or avoiding bad. Avoiding the bad deeds is a good trait that deserves praising. Praise your child also when he / she runs effectively his / her school life and the social and family relationships. It is type of accomplishment that deserves good words.
9. Search for the missions that your child can successfully accomplish. Ask him / her to do them and then praise for his/ her success in doing the missions.
10. Praise your child in the presence of others, taking care not to blame or reproach him / her before others.
11. Deal with your child independently without relating your behavior with him / her to others. Develop an independent personality for each of your children. Do not apply a general measure upon all your kids except in certain conditions. Treat with your children separately. This technique develops the self-confidence in your children.
12. Instill in him / her hopeful omen in all matters necessary to sustain himself or herself.
13. Shyness delicately touches the self-appreciation. A highly self-confident tends to be shyer than others. Support him / her.
14. Sincerity has a good effect on increasing one’ self-confidence. It increases one’s potential to assert and strengthen his / her self-confidence. Lying gives an opposite result.
15. Instill in your child the habit of doing favors to others. This conduct makes him / her take a good impression about himself / herself.
16. Avoid the physical or psychological punishment for reasons or not.
Building a man’s nature is a matter of sheer sophistication. It is a process that needs knowledge, patience, persistence and, before all, Allah’s help. Try hard, be patient and ask for Allah’s help. |
